La Tabernilla del Darro

Authentic bodegas and modern wine bars for tasting Granada province wines: crisp whites from the Costa Tropical, reds from the Alpujarras and the young D.O. Granada denomination.
The wine bars and bodegas of Granada are custodians of a local winemaking tradition that has grown considerably in prestige. D.O. Granada, one of Andalusia's youngest appellations, produces wines from high-altitude vineyards in the Sierra Nevada foothills — expect fresh whites from Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay grown above 1,000 metres, and earthy reds from Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon. The Alpujarra sub-zone and the Costa Tropical bring further variety, with tropical-influenced whites from near Motril. Traditional bodegas serve house wine directly from ceramic pitchers or oak barrels, accompanied by classic tapas. Modern wine bars offer Spanish and international labels in a contemporary setting. Prices range from €2–4 for a glass of local white to €8–12 for premium vintages.
